Conservative Party: Election Offers Toronto Families a Clear Choice
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today highlighted the economic choice families will face during this federal election: a choice between the Conservative Government’s proven, prudent approach to managing Canada’s economy and Stéphane Dion’s risky plan to impose a carbon tax that would raise the price of everything. Speaking to a crowd of supporters in Toronto, Harper took direct aim at the Liberal scheme designed to raise tax dollars to cover expensive and impulsive spending promises.“I know what it’s like to juggle jobs, children and mortgages,” said the Prime Minister. “Families need economic certainty. We just can’t afford to experiment with a risky carbon tax on everything.”
Prime Minister Harper highlighted the Conservative record of paying down debt and balancing broad-based tax cuts with sensible investments to grow Canada’s economy. He emphasized that Canada’s strong economic foundations place the economy in good stead to weather any rough patches that may be ahead.
“At a time of rising energy prices, we don’t need a carbon tax that makes energy more expensive,” noted the Prime Minister. “At a time when families worry about affordability, we don’t need a carbon tax that raises the price of everything we buy. That’s the last thing families need.”
