The Bloc is powerless and will always be in opposition

Prime Minister Stephen Harper kicked off the federal election campaign today by giving a speech to party supporters in Québec City. The Prime Minister said that Quebecers will have a clear choice on October 14th.

Mr. Harper said “Only the Conservative Party or the Liberals – or less likely the NDP – are in a position to form the next government. Quebecers will have to choose between the Conservatives, who have kept their word, delivered on their promises and strengthened Québec’s place in Canada, and the Liberal Party, which wants to raise your taxes, go back to the times of centralizing federalism, and revive federal-provincial bickering. The Bloc is not a choice for Quebecers for one simple reason: the Bloc will always be in opposition and will always come to Quebecers empty-handed.”

The Prime Minister said that Quebecers will have to choose which leader is best able to lead the country in a time of global economic uncertainty.

Mr. Harper said that “Quebecers need a disciplined government that cuts taxes and respects provincial jurisdictions. Quebecers do not need a centralist politician who wants to impose a new tax, or a powerless politician whose only work is to complain about the way the winner of this election leads the country.”

The Prime Minister reminded people that his government has kept all of its promises.

“It is the Conservative Party - not the Bloc or the Liberals - that recognized the Québécois nation, resolved the fiscal imbalance, gave $100 per month to parents with young children, cut the GST to 5 per cent, and granted big tax cuts to Canadians.”

The Prime Minister hopes that Quebecers will watch the election campaign closely and will meet the 75 Conservative Party candidates running in all regions of Québec.
